What Is Lightning App Builder?
Lightning App Builder is Salesforce's drag-and-drop tool for building custom record pages, home pages, and app pages by arranging standard and custom Lightning components without writing code.
Why It Matters
Before Lightning App Builder, customizing what a user sees on a record page required development work. Now an admin can rearrange components, add related lists, embed reports, or surface custom components built by a developer -- all visually, and scoped to specific profiles or apps.
How to Set It Up
Go to Setup, search for "Lightning App Builder", and click New.
Choose the page type: App Page, Home Page, or Record Page (Record Page is the most common starting point).
Select a layout template -- single column, two column with sidebar, etc.
Drag components from the left panel onto the canvas: related lists, standard field sections, reports, or custom Lightning Web Components.
Click Activation to assign the page to specific apps, record types, or profiles, then save and activate.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Building a beautifully organized page but forgetting to activate it for the right profile or app is the most common reason a new layout "doesn't show up" for users after being built. Also common: over-loading a single record page with too many components, which slows load time noticeably -- especially with multiple related lists or embedded reports.
